Newly discovered fossils of the 'hobbits' of Flores, Homo floresiensis, suggest they were even smaller than previously thought, now estimated to be 2.4 inches shorter than the initial 3 ft 2 inches.

These small hominids, which went extinct around 60,000 years ago, were first discovered in a cave in Indonesia in 2003.

The recent analysis of teeth and a partial upper arm bone confirms these were the smallest bones ever reported from an adult individual.
