Toothache Tree
Would you nail your gold to it?
In the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal, lies the unique Vaisha Dev shrine, dedicated to the goddess of toothache.
This shrine, known as the Toothache Tree, is a tree stump covered in rupee coins nailed by people seeking relief from dental pain.
Situated between Thamel and Kathmandu Durbar Square, the tree is believed to be from the mythical Bangemudha.
Despite modern dentistry being available, the shrine continues to attract those hoping for divine intervention.
Legend has it that a small gold idol once resided inside the tree stump, but it was stolen long ago.
