Tsunami Fear Over Old Wreck
Could London drown in a man-made Tsunami?
The SS Richard Montgomery, a World War II era cargo ship, remains one of the most dangerous shipwrecks due to its cargo of over 1,400 tons of explosives.
The ship sank in the Thames Estuary in 1944 and has had a quarantine zone around it ever since.
Recently, shipwreck experts have warned that the ship is close to breaking apart and spilling its dangerous cargo all over the seabed.
If this cargo was to suddenly explode all at once, it is believed a massive Tsunami will be created that will sweep down the River Thames, flooding large parts of London.
One expert believes that to avoid that, the UK Government has no more than ten years to begin removing the explosives from the wreck, before it is literally a ticking time-bomb.
